Jackson County Public Health is excited to announce its new preventative care campaign, “Life Is An Adventure. Take Charge of Your Health.” This campaign is targeted at middle-aged adults, with a focus on completing annual physical exams and recommended screenings and tests. To stay active and healthy through our 40s, 50s, and beyond, there is no better medicine than prevention! By encouraging Jackson County residents to “Take Charge of Your Health”, Jackson County Public Health want residents to maximize their health by staying current on important screenings, hopefully catching health problems sooner, when they are easier to treat.
In the 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment for Jackson County, it was identified that Jackson County has a much higher rate of premature death as compared to the state of Wisconsin as a whole. A variety of causes contribute to this, the top three being accidents and unintentional injuries, cancer, and heart disease. By all adults completing routine annual physicals and recommended screenings and tests for cancer and heart disease, the rate of premature death in Jackson County can be decreased, meaning the residents of Jackson County will live longer, healthier lives.
How can you “Take Charge of Your Health” today? Start by making an appointment with a healthcare provider for an annual physical exam. During your appointment, your healthcare provider can help you understand which screenings and tests are important for you based on your age, gender, and family health history. These may include colon cancer screening, breast exam and mammogram, prostate cancer screening, cholesterol check, blood sugar check, and skin cancer screening.
