Emergency Preparedness

Threats to public health are always present. These threats, whether triggered by natural, accidental, or unintentional causes, can result in public health incidents. Protecting and securing the public health of our residents requires that we be prepared to prevent, respond to, and swiftly recover from public health threats. The Jackson County Public Health Department wishes to ensure that you are informed and prepared for public health emergencies in our county.

During normal business hours, our Health Department staff can be reached in the event of a public health emergency.

Please dial 911 if you need to report a public health emergency outside of business hours.

Public health is prepared

Public Health Preparedness is the ability of local health departments to respond to all emergencies with a detailed plan of action and a system of communication that will include hospitals, law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and other emergency response agencies.

Jackson County Public Health is involved with local and regional efforts to strengthen emergency response in the following situations: Bioterrorism, Infectious Disease Outbreaks, Public Health Threats and Public Health Emergencies.

Since 2001, the Jackson County Public Health Department has been a member of a Regional Public Health Preparedness Consortium.  Consortium members collaboratively plan and prepare for public health emergencies both locally and regionally, The name of the area consortium is the Western Region Partnership for Public Health Preparedness (WRPPHP).

Volunteer to help

Volunteers are often needed in times of crisis to not only help and respond but to run errands for people, help with running shelters and assistance centers, and for manual labor such as picking up sticks after a flood.  Whether you work in a health field or not, are actively practicing, learning or retired, if you have an interest in assisting your community or state during a health crisis, we invite you to register in Wisconsin Emergency Assistance Volunteer Registry (WEAVR). You are not obligated to help when called but necessary background checks and approvals will have been completed before the crisis.
